I have been honored to recieve a grant that will give the fifth grade students at Broadalbin-Perth Intermediate School a wonderful opportunity to create a mosaic mural. This mural will be a permanent installation at the school.
The students will be working with artist, Linda Biggers on the project. We will be creating “The Pillars of Character Mosaic Quilt”. The fifth graders will be creating symbolic images that represent the Pillars of Character, Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. The images will be crafted in mosaic on a 24" x 24" "quilt" square.
This opportunity will give the students a chance to learn how to collaborate on a single, large scale artwork, while gaining a better understanding of the Character Pillars.
Saratoga Arts made this program possible with an Arts Education Grant funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
I would like to thank the Broadalbin-Perth Education Foundation and Broadalbin-Perth PTO for additional support, through grants, for this project.
I would like to give very special thanks to Jennifer Szumowski, Jon Aery, Allison Renda, and Daniel Casey. I could not have written this grant without your help and continued support to make this project a success.
